At NeuroEdge Performance Academy, our "Edge of Excellence" program is designed specifically for U7 hockey players, aged 5 to 6 years old, who are eager to take their skills to the next level. This program goes beyond the standard hockey training by offering full-ice, high-intensity skill sessions that teach the fundamentals of the game in a fun and engaging environment. Our approach ensures that young players not only develop their hockey abilities but also cultivate a strong work ethic and sense of accountability—key traits that will serve them well both on and off the ice. By focusing on these critical aspects, we prepare our athletes for future opportunities in elite stream hockey, helping them to reach their fullest potential according to their abilities and desires. At "Edge of Excellence" we believe that greatness starts with small steps, and our program is crafted to make sure those steps are both challenging and enjoyable for every young player.

**Edge of Excellence Program Overview**

The Edge of Excellence program at NeuroEdge Performance Academy is specifically designed for U7 hockey players (5-6 years old) to develop their foundational hockey skills in a fun and engaging environment. This program goes beyond regular training, offering a comprehensive approach that covers all aspects of the game. With a focus on both skill development and personal growth, our goal is to prepare young athletes for future opportunities in elite stream hockey.

**Teaching the Game**

Understanding the game of hockey is as important as mastering individual skills. Our program includes sessions dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of hockey, including rules, positioning, and game strategies. Young players will learn how to read the game, anticipate plays, and make smart decisions on the ice. These foundational skills are taught in a way that is age-appropriate and engaging, ensuring that players develop a solid understanding of the sport.

**Skating Sessions**

Skating is the backbone of hockey, and our high-intensity skating sessions are designed to improve speed, agility, and balance. We focus on edge work, stride mechanics, and transitions, helping young players become more confident and effective on their skates. By exposing players to various skating drills, we ensure that they develop the skills needed to navigate the ice with control and precision.

**Teaching Passing**

Passing is a crucial aspect of teamwork and game flow. In our program, players learn the techniques of accurate passing, including forehand and backhand passes, as well as receiving and controlling the puck. We emphasize the importance of communication and timing, teaching young athletes how to create opportunities and support their teammates on the ice. Through structured drills and fun activities, players build their passing skills and develop a sense of teamwork.

**Teaching Shooting**

Developing shooting skills is key to a young player's success on the ice. Our program includes sessions dedicated to teaching various shooting techniques to shoot to SCORE. We use fun and competitive drills to help players practice their shots, building confidence and accuracy.

**Full Ice Surface Exposure**

Unlike many training programs that use only half-ice, our Edge of Excellence program exposes young players to the full ice surface. This experience is crucial for developing spatial awareness, endurance, and the ability to play the game at a higher pace. By training on a full rink, players gain a better understanding of positioning, movement, and the dynamics of real-game situations.

**At-Home Stick Handling Equipment Provided**

To support skill development outside of regular training sessions, each participant in the Edge of Excellence program will receive at-home stick handling equipment. This allows players to practice their puck control, hand-eye coordination, and stickhandling techniques in their own time. By encouraging at-home practice, we help young athletes develop a passion for the game and continuously improve their skills.

**Fun Games Session**

We believe that learning is most effective when it’s fun! That’s why every practice session includes a dedicated fun games segment. These games are designed to reinforce the skills taught during training while keeping the atmosphere light and enjoyable. Whether it's relay races, small-sided scrimmages, or other hockey-related games, our young players will love this part of the practice, building camaraderie and a love for the game.
